“There’s still time to change the road your on…”—Led Zeppelin

Welcome back!!!!!! So its now the Spring Semester at Buff State, but it is anything BUT spring-like outside. And for some reason, at Buff State, the wind is ALWAYS blowing in your face, regardless of what direction you are walking in. Just an observation. And UGG boots have taken over. They are EVERYWHERE.

I guess to understand someone, you have to understand what they have done and where they have been. Today, I am currently a senior at Buff State…..counting down the days til graduation. (Which in my case is a lot of days because I graduate in December.) But anyways, that’s what my new blog is all about. How I got here. And whatever happens to be on my mind that day too.

Well I’m not sure where to start, but I’ll give it a shot. I grew up in Buffalo and went to a Catholic School. (R.I.P All Saints no really, it closed.) I moved to the suburbs when I was in 6th or 7th grade. Second big life-changing event for me. The first being my parents split up when I was 6. So I had two homes, two families, two everything. That’s how it been basically my entire life. Looking back on that, it has taught me what I want and how I want to raise my own family. (Which is still years and years away, but I know what I want. Well I think I do at least)

Flash forward to sophomore year at Tonawanda High School. I was just really starting to get settled and making some good friends. Now remember my “two of everything” rant? Well, my Dad tells me he’s getting remarried. Which is cool, but it’s a big change! Next day, My Mom and Step dad tell me that my step dad got a job at Texas Instruments and that we have to move to Dallas, TX at the end of the month. (It’s October.) Talk about having your world flipped upside down?! That was only 24 hours. Being 14 years old, this was a living hell basically. Everything you know is completely changed. And I decided right away I was not going! Everything was here, my family, my friends, and school. This was really tough for everyone. Because my mom and step dad wanted brother and me to go with them, and my Dad wanted us, and I wanted to stay here. What a mess! Well because my Dad lived in Buffalo, and not Tonawanda, I also had to switch schools too. What fun! (Hope you can pick up on my sarcasm.) And because my parents did not want me and my brother going to a City school, he moved in with his fiancée (Who is now my step-mom) who lives in Depew. Got all that? So my Mom and Step dad and younger sister (we have different dads) moved to Texas, along with my youngest brother who was on the way at the time. And I move to Depew with my brother and my Dad and get a new family (my step mom has a son too!) and life in Depew. And this is just October 2001. Whew. The beginning of sophomore year and what follows just changed me as a person and helped me to become who I am today, which has all led my career choice: PUBLIC RELATIONS. It’s a stretch I know, but I have all semester to explain! I hope to keep you on the edge of your seats!

Talk to you soon…..
Kelly
