Weather Permitting

While reading my fashion magazines I have noticed that rain gear has received more and more attention. In the past, rain attire was only reserved for a rainy day but many top, well-known designers have jumped on the bandwagon and have re-designed the way people battle the rain. Designers such as Tory Burch, Burberry, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Chanel have all incorporated rain accessories such as bucket hats, umbrellas, and totes (pictured above) into their lines. We are seeing more of these items being offered in stores like Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and other major department stores across the country.
With its increasing popularity, it has almost become a necessity in every fashionistas wardrobe especially those that live in the major cities and are forced to walk the streets. What I like is the fact that many of the items I am seeing seem to resemble the “patent” look, which has been a major trend since its introduction to the marketplace last year. It is hard even today to walk into a store and NOT find a piece that is patent leather whether it be a clutch, handbag, belt or shoe. Many of the designs pictured above can work into really anyone’s wardrobe. As we can see here at Buffalo State, several young, fashionable students have already picked up on the trend as they have been seen wearing rain boots, which yes are sold in bookstore. With that in mind, I believe this trend is here to stay and if you would like to check out the styles I have show visit the following websites:

Spring/Summer Color Trends

Spring/Summer clothes are out in the stores in all differet colors and hues. I viewed the pantone website to see what it had to say about the colors. A lot of neurtals are being used along with bright corals, yellows and purples. I really like all of the bright hues and have seen many of them used for different tops and dresses. The colors on the pantone website that I really like are hollyhock (a bright purple,) grapemist (a bright blue, ) and greensheen (a muted green.) Another color that I have seen a lot of in stores is bright yellow, and I really like this color as well. I recently bought a summer dress in the grapemist color, and a few tops in the hollyhock color and a bright yellow. I think that they are very flattering colors and fun for the new season. I think that they are especially great for Buffalo, because they will brighten up this dreary city. The neutral colors are also great because they offset the bright hues, to many bright hues would be very overpowering for a season.

Dresses- All Shapes, Sizes & Prints

There is one thing that makes me love the Spring/Summer season…Dresses! There is nothing more exciting and flattering than a great dress. They are definitely going to be big for this season; in all different styles, colors and lengths. Some of the styles that we will be seeing a lot of are babydolls, jersey dresses, wrap dresses, shirt dresses and kimono dresses. The great thing about any dress is that you can wear it day or night and for many different occasions. I use to always view dresses as only be wearable for special events, however, they are totally great to just thrown on and wear anywhere. My personal favorite is jersey knit, empire waist dresses. I love jersey knit material because it is so lightweight and comfortable. I also like empire waist dresses the best because I think that it is most flattering on my body. Another cute trend is wearing a dress with leggings, it gives the dress a whole new look and keeps you a bit warmer if it’s chilly out. I am very excited for the warm weather to come so I can start wearing all my cute new dresses. Some stores/websites that have really great dresses are Forever 21, Shopbop, Guess, Rampage, The Limited, and Express. Some stores are a bit more pricy then others, but the dresses are all so cute and very worth it.

Wide Leg Jeans Making a Come Back

As I have been browsing different clothing sites and searching for new trends I found that there is a bigger selection of wide leg jeans. I also read an article saying how they are more popular now and describing which washes and styles look best on certain figures. Personally, I have never been a fan of wide leg jeans because I don’t feel that you can dress them up as easily as flared jeans. I also don’t think that they are very flattering on my own body type. They can make legs look bulky or just bag out to much and become very casual or rather sloppy looking. However, the wide leg jeans that I have recently seen look a lot more flattering. One brand that I found in particular were GoldSign, they disguise heavier thighs because the style falls in a straight line from the hip. Another pair that I liked were Citizens of Humanity jeans, they flare out at the knee balancing heavy hips. Neither pair was to loose or baggy looking, they were very slim fitting through the butt and hip. The GoldSign were my favorite because I really liked the overall style and the dark wash that they came in. I have yet to purchase any wide leg jeans but I will keep these jeans in mind along with how their styles flatter certain figures.

The Fannypack: A New Trend?

fannypack.jpg fanny1.jpg
As I was web-surfing today, I came across a video that I can’t figure out if it was funny or just plain stupid so I thought I would share it. It was a video showing the Statue of Liberty wearing a fannypack along with a comedic reporter interviewing passers-by on the streets of New York City asking if the fannypack is a new fashion statement. As I think about it more and more, I have seen a variety of fannypacks such as the type shown in the picture above that was taken from the BabyPhat runway show. I am just curious to see if they will becoming back into style anytime soon.
