Thanksgiving Dressing

When I was young, it was traditional for my two sisters and I to get “dressed up” for Thanksgiving. We rarely left the house that day, but for some reason we felt the need to put on our cute clothes to go along with our mom’s elaborate table dressing. Now, as the years pass, we no longer put on our fancy outfits to eat the special dinner. Jeans and a t-shirt (sometimes even sweats) have become my official preferred Holiday attire! I guess I view getting all dazzled up as another form of “work”, something that I try to ignore exists until the Holiday is over. However, the tradition has started once again since the addition of my nephew into the family five years ago. He is always well dressed and prepared for a three course meal either at our home or a four star restaurant.

Regardless of how I feel about dressing up on the holidays, I’m always prepared to eat, and with the absence of fitted clothing, I can make room for a little more turkey and stuffing! So in the end maybe I have the right idea about how to dress for Thanksgiving!
Enjoy and eat well!

Who are you callin’ Ugly Betty?

Ugly Betty Thursday 8p.m. on ABC
I have to agree with Julie on the subject of that fowl word UGLY. It can be very hurtful and damaging to one’s self confidence. That is perhaps why I had reservations about watching the new ABC hit show Ugly Betty. For all those familiar with the actress who plays the lead character, America Ferrera, we know that she is a very pretty woman with or without her costume. Betty is the outrageously talented Executive Assistant at a mock fashion magazine office, who gets in way over her head at times, but always triumphs in the end, despite her co-workers evil attempts to sabatoge her daily assignments. Betty’s positivity, warmth and ability to turn the other cheek is infectious (If this is who Ugly Betty is, wouldn’t you like to be her?). It’s a great show for anyone who knows the competitive nature (also known as cattiness) of the fashion journalism world or for all us fashion obsessed chicas (and chicos) who need a break from our crazed nine to fives what ever they may be. So Watch! Watch! Watch!

I heart Target

By now you all know that Target has

gone international
with some of the fashion world’s most talented designers giving us wishful shoppers, whose eyes are bigger than the contents of their wallets, a break (now you don’t have to weigh the benefits of paying for rent as opposed to buying that must have dress!) for a limited time. I was excited to learn, after seeing the new Target commercial (best commericials on my tele I might add), that Behnaz Sarafpour’s designs have made their fashion arrivial! For all you Fashion Forecasting students who practically performed surgery on the Collections, her name should ring a bell!… If not you know what i’m gonna tell you to do….. visit Target’s go international website at http://www.target.com/gp/browse.html/ref=nav_t_spc_1_11/601-0828646-0008124?ie=UTF8&node=16275561 or http://www.style.com/fashionshows/ to get a taste of what Sarafpour has to offer!

Long Johns and Layers

When I was a little girl standing on the cold, cold corner waiting for the big, yellow (cheese) bus, I never understood why my mother made me wear Long Johns (commonly known as Thermals for all you folks that don’t know what i’m talking about) under my cute outfits. They were annoying, clashed with my get-up, and they often kept me a little too warm. Twenty some odd years later, I pay homage to those Long Johns and to my mom for making me wear them.
As the Buffalo weather begins to turn predictably unpredictable, a couple of you have expressed concerns about what to wear and how to stay stylish during the cold Fall and Winter seasons. Well, my answer is Layer, Layer, Layer!!!!!!! As we have seen on the runways during Fashion Week this past Spring, the look for Fall according to Marc Jacobs and others, is to throw on as much as you could possibly fit onto your frame while maintaining that fabulous fashion glow! The good thing about this trend is that it allows for the removal of clothes to fit each event in your oh so hectic day. So, if you need that Cami for a dinner party at 7, hide it during the work day under a nice belted cardigan or turtle neck with opaque tights or leggings under a pencil skirt. Or why not lose those trouser pants you wore to work with an oversized v-neck sweater and platforms, throw on a belt, add some opaque tights and head out for an evening with friends. The key here is to make your wardobe of not so nippy Fall to bitter Winter as week-day to weekend friendly as possible.
So if your not looking to put away your sizzling Summer tops, you don’t have to, just layer them away!
Thanks for your questions, keep them coming!
