Spring Foward

00800128.detail.a.jpg

So I just wanted to give everyone an update on some things that I found to be interesting. Heidi Minx who until recently designed for small boutique stores has decided to design for Spencer’s. They are going to sell the entire collection of 40 styles. While the collection is accessories for now she is working on apparel, so hopefully we will see that in stores soon.
I don’t know if we will be seeing this in stores anytime soon, maybe we can see them at Tony Walker. Seven for All Mankind as well as Joe’s Jeans has finally launched an accessories line. Seven will be showing leather handbags in plum, gray, and brown. Habitual and Rock & Republic will be launching there accessorie line as well.
My last bit of news is that all of the metallic makeup that we have been seeing on the runway for spring is available at Sephora. They have a wide variety of eye, skin and lip makeup.

Models Needed

The student fashion show will take place on April 26, 2007 at Rockwell Hall. The show will be during Bangle Pause so that Buffalo State students can attend. We are looking for female models to walk in the show. Auditions will be held February 27th and March 1st from 12:15- 1:30 in 315 Caudell Hall. The designers will be picking the models they would like to use and there are no set height or weight requirements. This is a great oppurtunity for any aspiring models and it will be a fun time. The fashion show also has its own myspace at http://www.myspace.com/buffalostatefashionshow, so if you are already a myspace member go ahead and add us to your friend list. Since April is coming up quickly there will be meetings for all the members of the show on both Tuesday and Thursday this following week during Bangle Pause.

Dove’s Pro-Age Campaign

Dove.jpg
Last year, Dove, the beauty bar manufacturer, made headlines when they launched a campaign for real beauty. The advertisements were controversial because they featured young women in their underwear exposing themselves, curves and all. Many people were outraged because it did not “fit” the description of what Americans believe as the definition of beauty and many claimed that these women were fat and that America does not want to see this type of advertising. The company is back at it again with their new Pro-Age campaign featuring older women exposing themselves for the world to see. A few weeks ago, Oprah featured a show on this topic and even brought on these new “covergirls” to the show. Dove was able to convince a grandmother in her 60’s to pose in the buff for the world to see in Times Square (pictured above). To see pictures from the show, click here http://www.oprah.com/beauty/skinbody/20070205/beauty_20070205_350_103.jhtml So my question is…Is this a good advertising method to boost a woman’s self-confidence? I believe this is a great way for women of all ages to love the skin their in. To me, it sends out such a positive message to women to feel good about how they look. I think Dove pushed the boundaries of ordinary advertising and now I believe it has gained even more popularity. I would like to hear what you think and if you want to learn more about this campaign, visit http://www.campaignforrealbeauty.com/

Another Website

So Gap may have finally found something that is going to work for them. Piperlime is the new website that Gap owns. They actually sell any and every brand of shoe you can think of. I just saw a pair of shoes in the new lucky magazine for March, and went right on the website and was able to get them. they have all of the latest shoes and all of the hottest brands. If you are ever looking for shoes, guys or girls, this is the website for you. I really like this because we cannot find most of these shoes in our area and this website gives you such a wide variety. Check it out and get back to me!!!

I “like” this website

So I just came across this new website, called like.com. You get a list of trends and celebrities. When you click on the celeb or trend you want, it features one item that he or she is wearing. Once you click on that item it gives you similar items that we would be able to find in stores around here. You can also order online, and this also gives you so many different styles that you may find a pair that you like even better. So please check out the website and let me know what you think about it.

Spring Fashions

http://www.cosmopolitan.com I sure that after this huge snow storm we are getting right now everyone can’t wait for spring to finally arrive. With the arrival of spring comes all the new fashions. Rachael Zoe, fashion consultant to the stars, gave us a few ideas for spring in the latest issue of cosmo. Mini skirts are again huge for spring, and they can be worn with any type of shoe. For a casual day look pair them with ballet flats and for a night on the town go with platforms. Which brings me to another point, platforms are huge this spring. They can be worn day or night and are especially hot in light or metallic colors. They show an amazing pair of Yves Saint Laurent platforms along with the article. Cuffs are also going to be big this spring, which they have been trying to show all fall so hopefully more people will pick up on this.
More trends for spring will be bubble dresses, cropped jackets, puffy sleeves, and headbands. They actually gave a few tips for each I would like to share. For the bubble dresses, these can be very tricky to wear if you are not stick thin. They can make you look like you have gained a few pounds after putting it on. The trick to this they say is to choose a dress above the knee and has a cinched waist. She also suggests wearing it with heals. Cropped jackets, which I would like to see disappear, are also a difficult coat to wear. They accentuate the middle area, which is why she suggests wearing it over a billowy top or dress. This also makes a very feminine looks, which is always nice for spring. She also suggests that when buying a shirt with puffy sleeves choose a solid color and also make it very simple. As for the last item, headbands, she suggests wearing it with your hair pulled back, to give it an edgier look. I don’t necessarily agree on this because I have short hair and headbands can be very flattering and if you can pull it off go ahead and wear it with your hair down.

Fashion Show Update

Last Thursday marked the second meeting for the student fashion show that will happen this spring. It will be organized by fashion students with the direction of James Siewert. The show will be judged by outside professionals and anyone who participates sucessfully will receive one credit. The textile and jewelry design students may also play a role, lending their designs to the show. This is a great opportunity for all the students involved and helps to bring the different departments together to create something creative and new. I will be posting updates on this blog to keep everyone involved in the process. Those who are already participating in the show can contact me (Ash) with any questions at aevito@hotmail.com. Any questions about the merchandising aspect can be sent to Meghan at arnomd7s@mail.buffalostate.edu and any questions about designs can be sent to Kelly at queenofdutches@aol.com

Grammy Fashion 2007

if anyone caught the Grammy’s last night, they would know that Hollywood’s hottest were out to dress to impress. If you are like me, you watch the Grammy’s just for the fashion. It was no surprise that Beyonce, in a champagne-colored Armani looked amazing as well as Carrie Underwood. My favorite dress of the night was Paula Abdul’s black and white little number. Petra Nemacova and Vanessa Minillo both proved metallics were still hot and well for the guys? Many opted for more toned-down suits. Justin Timberlake came dressed in a Prada gray one button tuxedo that looked great. Accessorizing was still key though, diamonds of course, were definately in effect. One of my favorite fashion critics, Steven Cojocaru, claimed the Grammy fashion was “train-wreck city.” His pick for worst dressed was Imogen Heap. If anyone saw the outfit, I will have to agree with Steven on this one. It was pretty bad. For more Grammy Fashion, visit http://www.tvguide.com/Special/Grammys-2007/gallery.aspx

Finally, jeans that fit me

Hello Everyone!! I just want to start by introducing myself. My name is Staci and I am senior. I am a Fashion Merchandising major, and am looking forward to getting to know all of the readers. I want to talk about this article I read about today in the new Life and Style Issue. Wide Leg jeans are back in and skinny jeans are out. Finally, I will be able to find more jeans that flatter my body type. All the other girls out there who have big hips and thighs like I do know that skinny jeans are not flattering. They make me look even bigger, but it has been so hard to find jeans that look good on me. I am excited to finally go shopping and buy jeans that look good on me. I want to hear from other people who know what I am talking about. Skinny jeans are not for everyone…so go out and get the pair of flare jeans you have been waiting for!!

Fall 2007

marc.jpgThe Fall 2007 shows are in full swing and we are finally starting to get a feel for what we can expect to see on the sales racks soon. The color choices were various but there seemed to be less browns and more black and gray tones than we saw last season. Intermingled with the dark colors we saw pops of electric blue, neon yellow, and bright crimson. Tights and tunic dresses also made a strong appearance in many of the shows. The skinny leg pants ,however ,seemed to be pushed to the side with wide leg trousers being a more popular choice. My own personal favorites so far are Marc Jacobs with his very sleek silhouettes and Adam + Eve with their classic chunky knits. To keep updated on all the shows check out www.style.com
