Last year, Dove, the beauty bar manufacturer, made headlines when they launched a campaign for real beauty. The advertisements were controversial because they featured young women in their underwear exposing themselves, curves and all. Many people were outraged because it did not “fit” the description of what Americans believe as the definition of beauty and many claimed that these women were fat and that America does not want to see this type of advertising. The company is back at it again with their new Pro-Age campaign featuring older women exposing themselves for the world to see. A few weeks ago, Oprah featured a show on this topic and even brought on these new “covergirls” to the show. Dove was able to convince a grandmother in her 60’s to pose in the buff for the world to see in Times Square (pictured above). I believe this is a great way for women of all ages to love the skin their in. To me, it sends out such a positive message to women to feel good about how they look. I think Dove pushed the boundaries of ordinary advertising and now I believe it has gained even more popularity.
