Bathing Suits

Its the most dreaded season again, the time of the year when we go shopping for skimsuits and see every single fault on our bodies. I have been praying for weeks that Vogue would run a story on full coverage 1920s style suits coming back. My prayers ,however, have failed me and I must face the reality that it is now time to make the painful shopping trip. I have however prepared for this challenge and will share my tips with you on how to make the swimsuit buying experience a little easier.
1. Crunches- If you are like me excercising is not one of your better skills. My idea of a workout is trying to make it through the Galleria Mall before I have to get to work. I buy the exercise videos but I do them once and then they sit on the shelf until they are old enough to be given to the Salvation Army. These last two weeks however I have forced myself to do 20 crunches everyday. I use one of those balance balls so 20 is harder then it sounds. The results aren’t major but I do look a little more toned and for 10 minutes of work a day I cant complain.Exercise ball available at Target $11.88ball.jpg

2 Get a Tan - Okay so I might be offending some of you who practice the ‘pastey is beautiful’ mantra, well I apologize. I myself am part of the pale skinned group and I love it during the fall and winter with my peach blush and rich colored clothing making me appear elegant and sophisticated. The summer however is a different story and when I go to try on swimsuits under the flouresent lighting my legs blend in with the white walls . That is why every spring before the skirts come out I invest in a nice bottle of self tanner. Now I am not telling anyone to go out and get fried like Donnatella Versace but a little Jergens Natural Glow ( about $6.00) will make you look healthier and also have a slimming effect .jergens.jpg
3 An Awesome Swimsuit - If all else fails go out and buy a swimsuit so cute that it will distract you from any of the flaws your body may have. The one pictured below is form Victoria’s Secret and at $49.00 dollars you cant beat it.suit.jpg

coming to a store near you…

picsrv_fashionweekdaily.jpg
So I love Sarah Jessica Parker and was very excited to learn that she is coming out with a line of clothes called Bitten. Her clothes will be sold at Steve and Barry’s for $19.98 and under. They will be featured June 7 and will contain items such as apparel, swimwear, jewelry, bags, belts, sunglasses and of course shoes. She became a fashion icon in Sex and the City, but I don’t think that her clothes will be as fashionable as we see her wearing. She will also have lounge wear, graphic tees and intimates. So please keep an eye out for Bitten, I think it will be fabulous. The picture I featured above is actually her own design and hopefully something we will see in stores around here.
I also wanted to let you know that on March 16, H&M began a new line called Collection of Style. This is more upscale for H&M but will hopefully sell very well. We are used to the disposal clothing and this will be something that will last more than one season. It is a little more expensive but if it looks good, does it really matter? It will range from $25 to $298. This is a big difference between usual H&M styles, so I will try and update everyone on how they are selling. COS will feature more classic styles instead of trendy items. This is going to target a new consumer, it may actually attract an older crowd to shop at the store.

March InStyle

To my fellow fashionistas-If you haven’t picked up the new issue of InStyle featuring the always sophisticated, Sandra Bullock I suggest you do so! What I like about Sandra Bullock is how effortlessly chic she is. She is the type of girl who isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty, whether its for a movie role or helping her car afficionado husband Jesse James in his Long Beach Auto shop. James is also the host of the Discovery Channel’s, Monster Garagehttp://www.monstergarage.com/main.php. In the issue, she talks about married life, her new movie Premonition which stars Nip/Tuck hottie Julian McMahon, one of my other favorite tv shows. What I found most interesting about Bullock is how down to earth she seemed in the interview. She has given $1million to Asia’s tsunami victims and is currently working on a project to rebuild the homes in New Orleans that were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
The issue also features a great deals and steals section for Spring 07’ with prices ranging from $4-200. One of the best parts of this magazine in my opinion is the Q and A. This really offers advice on how to wear new trends we have been seeing for all body types, which I always find very helpful! For all of you accessory junkies-there are pages among pages of Spring’s hottest handbags in all different fabrics-python to patent to fabric-all so cute! Lastly,
the beauty section offers great tips for different hairstyles in a variety of climates including rain and snow, I think we all can use some hair help these days with the weather being the way it is. Needless to say, this issue is a must as spring is right around the corner. To watch a trailer of Bullock’s upcoming movie Premonition, visit http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/premonition/ and for more fashion tips on the web, click http://www.instyle.com/instyle/

Luxury

I think that if you are planning on visiting NYC you should definately stop by the FIT museum. There are two great exhibits coming up. From March 13 until April 21 they will be showing the Lilly Dache: Glamour at the Drop of a Hat exhibit. She was a famous celebrity hat designers from the 1930’s and 40’s.
The other exhibit, Luxury, begins May 23 and goes through November 10. This is to show the change in luxury throughout the history of fashion. The exhibit features clothing and accessories from the 18th century to present. It will feature couture items from Chanel, Dior, Balenciaga, etc. It will also feature accessories from designers such as Hermes, Lanvin and Chanel. This will be an amazing exhibit featuring some of the most well known designers. Please check out the FIT website for more information about the exhibit and if you are interested in any other fashion events in NYC, you can find it on this website.
