Bold Moves…

It looks as though Andy Warhol has not only made master pieces in the 1960s through paintings and a whole genre of art. This falls collection has modernly twisted the art-deco era and brought back a look of boldness. Andy Warhol’s color palettes and the looks of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture and his dynamics are seen in this falls collections. Art- deco, geometric color patterns are seen on garments of all types. Shoes are modernly bold with bold, chunky heels and extravagant color palettes. Bold red tones, greens that reminisce the jungle ambiance, bright oranges that are juicy as an orange fruit. Jewelry has followed with this modern twist and stuck with the chunky, bold looks. Bold color palettes that are still tasteful and are enough to liven up any old black suit. Bold faces are seen on many of the tops in the collections, as seen in much of the art in the 1960’s. These looks appear in just to name a few, Pierre Hardy’s shoes, Marc Jacobs, Antonio Marra’s line, and Lanvin shoe. The planned out lines and color are just enough to give that bold taste and sexiness. Is it something that will be here to stay, or is it an attempt at a new fad? What do you think?

Any Opinions?

Smell that?

Since the 1930s, when Schiaparelli designed a bottle of perfume to look like Mae West’s figure, designers, movie stars, and musical artists, have been marketing a Scent with their name on it! Artist like Hilary Duff with the scent WITH LOVE, Jennifer Lopez with now 4 scents, Paris Hilton, the olsen girls, Puffy, Antonio Banderaz now with 3 scents, Desperate Housewives’ Forbidden Fruit, which, of course, features a wisteria note; Derek Jeter Driven by Avon, David Beccam, Celine Dion, Estee Lauder Pleasures by Gwyneth Paltrow; and Dianoche by Daisy Fuentes …just to name a few, all are trying their luck at a specialty scents.

But who seems to be missing from this list of people? None other than Mariah Carey.I was shocked to read in WWD that Mariah Carey will be releasing her first scent this Fall called “M” for women. (she is still around?) She is collaberating with Elizabeth Arden (whom also created the Brittany Spears scents), for a fresh new scent… (with a butterfly on the bottle.. are we suprised?)

I worked at a perfume counter for a few years, and it’s crazy how many teenagers who would not even smell the perfume or cologne before they would purchase it. They would buy it just because it had their favorite musician or Stars name on it. It will be iteresting to see what Mariah’s scent is like, and who else follows the scent trend, that is far from new.

Check out the article below, It tells all about the beginning of Scent with Elizabeth Taylor, and how Coty fragrances has grown over the past few years to have widest range of celebrity licenses of any fragrance company. Not to mention how having a celebrity name associated with your company is not always the best.

Everyone is a designer!

Over the past few months i have been reading about the rise of “new, unknown, young, hip” designers coming to stores all over. These designers have been spotten in well known stores everywhere, two of favorites being GAP and TARGET. Some of you may have even been buying products from the Target “new designer” collections, or even GAP for that matter with there new white line. Oppurtunities like this are allowing more american and european deisgners to invade the United States fashion world, and allow oppurtunities for almost ANYONE to get their designs out there to the public.

Lets first look at GAP, designers like Rodarte, Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the sisters from California behind Rodarte, sell couture dresses that usually cost thousands, whereas their white shirtdress for Gap cost a mere $88.This give Rodarte a huge chance to reach a wider audience that they would not usually appeal to. GAP shoppers are not out to spend a fortune on couture, they want khakis, or a cute preppy style that is affordable. GAP has recently had problems with losing one of there top executives, so i am not suprised that they decided to create the “Gap Design Editions.” It seems that sales are doing quite well for them, but anything is quite an increase from over there past few years. This might be the idea that GAP needs to get themselves back on track!

The below article actually talks about the Rodarte dress selling out online!!!

(Look for yourself at other items for gap!!!! http://www.gap.com/)

Then there is Target, not only have they been growing over the years with super target and all, but they do a designer collection every month that draws an audience back into the store. I will be the first to admit that i love target, i could go in there 3 times a week and spend at least $ 50 every time!! (c’mon you know u could too. haha) But now i go into target looking for the new designers. I have purchased items from Proenza Schouler, Behanz Sarafpour, and Patrick Robinson…just to name a few . The clothes are new, and different, and i love that. I think that is one of the many reasons why target decided to run this line and also so that every teen, or adult will be able to purchase designer clothes at affordable prices!

Designers have become such a huge deal to a younger generation over the past few years, and i think that the “designer” and “name brand” phase is going to continue for years to come. I would not be surpiused to see other retailers to joining on the train and do the same thing. Even H&M has used Madonna in the past few months to up there image. More and More people are getting the oppurtunity to sell there designs, and i advise all of you to start looking in how to get into this! I know it is not as easy as it sounds, but the possibilities and oppurtunities are out there!

Below are just a few designs from RODARTE (www.style.com)
