Riding High

Hats! Hats have always been in fashion, but just now are we seeing them pop out (literally) in everyday styles. Every kind of hat has fit into fashion somewhere in time. Riding caps seem like an odds-on favorite for the fall season. “Since the cap category has become so popular, the timing is perfect for riding caps to thrive…..equestrian-inspired fashion will soon set the pace at specialty and department stores.” - Accessories Magazine June 2007. Even with this style itself there are so many different style riding caps that we are seeing. Also, so many different colors from metallic’s and animal prints to a palette including berry, gray and chocolate brown. Some designers we have seen use this style a lot are 3.1 Phillip Lim and Abaete.

All we saw were high crowns and shortened brims. Of course there are many different style hats, and all are in competition with the newsboy cap, but trendsetters think that this one will be a winner. I have to say, I do agree. What will go better together this fall than some cozy fur with a tall riding cap? Nothing. We all want to keep our original accessory items, but maybe must just a new little twist on the style to freshen things up. These new riding caps will be the new fresh look in the hat world that we all need.

These fall trends are so comfy yet so stylish. It surely will be one amazingly stylish fall. What is so nice about these trends is that they are so easy to put together. The style is all in the comfort. As Bray of Andrea’s Fine Hats & Accessories points out, riding caps are a “TRUE fall fashion item, rather than a functional cold weather style.” With these new trends that are emerging for fall, I just can’t wait. Fall isn’t coming soon enough. I am ready to ride it in style.

Go Fur It!

Yes, it is a little early to be talking about fall and keeping warm, but face it, we will have to deal with it sooner or later. There really isn’t a better time talk about it than now. This fall will be un-fur-getable for both accessories and apparel. Staying warm in the fall is always top priority, and from the looks of it, it wont be too hard to do that this fall season. From fur hats, gloves, scarfs, and boots to fur bags and vest, we surely will have it all. Here are some examples.

Ann Demeulemeester.jpg

This is a piece from Ann Demeulemeester’s fall line.

Here is another from Balenciaga’s line. It is very simple, and practical, yet so stylish at the same time. I love it!

These two are great. These are from Chado Ralph Rucci’s fall line. Wearing this kind of fur you would be unbelievably warm, and also extremely stylish. Its amazing.

Whether it is real or faux fur, it doesn’t matter, as long as you stay warm. We have seen this trend in past seasons, but it never really reached a high point as far as it being a main trend for the season. Although, I have a feeling that this fall will be its high point. I don’t know about you, but this is just fine with me. Who doesn’t love dressing up an outfit with a warm fuzzy vest or a warm hat? Its stylish and practical. It can’t get any better than that. Any type of fur this season will definitely be a great buy.

So get ready, its going to be love at furst sight!

ShOeS!

I know.. I know… you are all still wearing flip-flops.. (myself included) but it is never to early to start checking out what is in for Fall 2007 in shoes!

Platform shoes are the hottest footwear trend for fall, but the also making news are the extreme heels that are being paired with platform soles. Chunky, high, angular, wide, and even cone-shaped, this fall, the heels will be more extreme and sexier than ever.

But if you love a round-toed shoe, you’ll be in luck this fall, as footwear influenced by the 60s takes full stride!
And now dont start hiding those toes just because the temperature starts to drop. Peep-Toe Shoes are hotter than ever, look for peep-toes and sandals for fall in suede, velvet and patent. (the seasons hottest fabrics!)

Not sure what to wear with those shoes? Try Wide-legged trousers or jeans for those extreme heels, especially those with chunky heels and platform soles. And while platform shoes also work great with skinny jeans, a thin high heel will keep the look from being “to much”. Ballet flats (round or pointy-toed) are also a great option with skinny jeans.

The Call of the Wild: Safari Summer

I’ve noticed that things seem to be much more casual these days. 100% casual and at the same time still 100% stylish. Of course the degree to which this style is played out depends on where you are in the world, but no matter where you are you still get the feeling of a relaxing vacation. This style that I have seen being worn more and more is fine with me. No more of this tight, slim fitting clothing over your whole body. Who wants to look like they are shoved into sausage casing? Definitely not me. These styles now are so laid back and free feeling, yet so stylish and feminine. Very “rugged-chic”. It’s amazing.

For example, here’s a nice image of a safari camp in which one may vacation. Its relaxing and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Life which may seem restricting…much like crazy everyday life.

…And here’s an image of what this would look like in fashion form. This “rugged-chic” look from Dolce & Gabbana screams free and relaxing.

Or how about this safari jacket by Yves Saint Laurent? Plucked from the wild in the late 60’s, it rises to the occasion yet again. It’s a bit more feminine than the rugged look.

safari shirtdress.jpg

I haven’t seen toooo much animal print this summer, but I have a feeling it will be on a rise for the fall season. Maybe not too much as far as an overall print, but there will be a little here and there to spice up the wild look. Here’s an example from Roberto Cavalli’s Resort Collection.

Who’s ready to go on a safari to Zambia and Botswana? I AM!

Polished Glamour

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Seen on almost every runway for the upcoming fall season the theme was all to recognizable. Polished with a twist is the look for FALL 07. The touch of the 40’s and 50’s when women were well kept and carried sophistication. What once started the Chanel revolution and Dior’s house opened new doors is back to be placed into our wardrobes. Retro looks of orange and neutral hues are important to your fall wardrobe. Clutches like those of the Chanel style, trench coats, ballerina flats, chunky heeled platform shoes afloat the runway and will be hitting the racks any day now. Corsets worn over sweaters or button up shirts give a feminine twist on the business attire for the working woman. Flowing shirts with flouncy or ruffled sleeves are so feminine and yet give such a powerful vibe and are flattering on any body type. Pencil skirts and the full a-line are a powerful key to this seasons onset. Pieces of jewelry are an added to touch to the polish look. Pearls, lockets with long chains (the ever popular of the 40’s/50’s), chunky gems with long chains as well add your own personal style to a grown up look.
Guess it’s my time for a fashion trip! Until next time…

Sweet Shades

“They started as pure function - tinted lenses to protect eyes made weary by the sun.” - Style.com I don’t know about you but my first thought of sunglasses is “pretty sweet accessory.” And what more of a perfect time to talk about sunglasses than right now in the h.o.t summertime. From aviators for piolets to wraparound shades with bling… there are just so many options. This is the time when we can really take advantage of using accessories in our outfits. Not only with a couple jewelry items, but with some nice sunglasses. To me it seems that having a nice pair of sunglasses is becoming more and more popular. They are becoming more of a fashion statement than for what they were first intended for, eye protection. And that is just fine with me. Of course we do need some shade from the sun, but why not look good while being protected. Right?

Some of the trends and styles that we currently see have been brought out from the past, while others are simply a new twist on an old idea. But I would have to say, big continues to be in. Just take a look at Balenciaga and Valentino this summer season. Its all about how much can cover the face.

And you can never go wrong with a little spice in your life. Giambattista Valli keeps it edgy with this snazzy pair.

This is truly the season to have fun with accessories. So, stay safe and of course stylish with some sweet shades!

Sarah Jessica Parker and Fashion

So who is the next actress to enter the Fashion world with her own line? Well none other that Sarah Jessica Parker. I never believed that she would have created a line, but she did, and partnered with Steve & Barry’s infact! The collection’s Tagline is “Fashion is Not a Luxury,” specifically named “BITTEN”,.

sarahjess.jpg

Her line starts at $7.98 (typical Steve & Barry’s pricing) and runs to no more than $19.98-20$!! The collection has about 500 pieces and with a size range of 0-22. This is going to allow such a broad audience to be able to wear and afford her clothing. She may actually have a huge hit on her hands!

I am going to be very interestead to see where this line goes. Is it going to be successful u think? Are you going to buy it just because it has a celebrity label? or is it going to lose its attraction because so many people are going to be able to afford it? Better yet, is she going to wear her own collection? We know that Gewn Stafani will wear her L.A.M.B Merchandise anywhere, but will Sarah Jessica Parker, a woman known for wearing Oscar De la Renta and Alexander McQueen , switch up her look?

“It’s about affordable, well-made American sportswear. It’s about fashion not being a luxury,”say SJP “It’s really, really important to us that it be good, feel good, have a life, that it make a difference in your life and that you have money left over to live.”

I never watch Oprah, but she was on there showing her line.. CHECK OUT HER LOOKS!!

Well Hello!

Well hello! My name is Rebecca, but most call me Becca. I am a senior at Buff State majoring in Fashion Merchandising. The path I have taken to get to this point has been different than others Im sure, but it has been so much fun. I have always loved fashion, but wasn’t sure where it would take me, so for my first two years of college I majored in Interior Architecture. Finally I faced the truth and went back to my love of fashion. I have always wanted to be the woman sitting at a fashion show, taking notes, and planning what I could buy. So here I am, a fashion major, and ready to graduate this Fall 07. Along this path I have realized that I would love to be a buyer, but even more than that, I would love to have my own boutique where I could sell my own jewelry and other unique items. So we will see what happens!
I was so excited to have the opportunity to explore fashion a bit more, and talk about it, and see what others have to say. The fashion industry is so unique and interesting, and it is constantly changing. So we will have plenty to talk about. Please give any input you may have. Until next time! :)
