double, double toil and trouble

I’ve been extremely busy these past couple weeks. I’m sure we’re all feeling the mid semester crunch. That ohno!mygrades!- shock and the mid term chaos.
The internship has also kept me quite busy with the Mass Appeal show craziness in full affect. I’ll post more details on that this weekend.

I’m in Syracuse right now, and feeling a little uninspired. Here I attach myself to the laptop and search every blog and website I can to get ideas because I haven’t seen an edgy, unique outfit in this town in awhile.
…and IT’S HALLOWEEN !! Honestly my favorite holiday !

I’ve decided to touch on some fashion that seems to be inspired by Halloween, including designers, make up, and even an exhibit at FIT.

As we all know Alexander McQueen always has the Gothic/Halloween inspired twist.
For McQueen’s Fall 2008 line he said that the ideas came from a tree in his garden.
“I’ve got a 600-year-old elm tree in my garden,” he said, “and I made up this story of a girl who lives in it and comes out of the darkness to meet a prince and become a queen.”

All these looks are the perfect match for modern day witch/Gothic inspired wardrobe. The brocade and lace are the perfect feminine touch to these spooky designs. The layering and disheveled look adds a grunge appeal. The witch factor comes through with the lace up boots, tights, and those flowery designs which kind of resemble spiderwebs.

Spring 2009 runways brought many interested Halloween-esque looks.

Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s looks resembled exoskeletons with sliced and shredded designs.

Christian Lacroix’s oversized necklaces made rib cages look dainty and feminine.

Givenchy’s skeleton shaped “armor” was fierce.

Who could forget Luella’s Autumn/Winter 2008 line…

The crazy hair, the pasty makeup and the models glares just add to the witchy affect the looks all have. I think it’s pretty obvious Halloween and classic fall colors were the inspiration for these designs.

Gothic makeup, black lipstick and dark nails have also made quite an impression on runways (YSL’s fall 2008) and in the fashion world.

Morticia Addams called and she wants her black lipstick back !

Last but not least…
FIT is having a great exhibition from September 5, 2008 through February 21, 2009. It’s called Gothic: Dark Glamour. This exhibition touches base on Gothic styles from Japanese Gothic Lolitas, designer lines, to an introductory gallery of the origins of Gothic style. You can see designer pieces from Alexander McQueen, John Galliano of Christian Dior and Anna Sui (to name a few), old Victorian mourning dresses, and veils, jewelry and masks in theatrical mise-en-scene suggesting iconic Gothic settings. These settings include castles, a laboratory and a bat cave to bring the exhibition to life.
Check it out if your in the city before February 21st !

Happy Halloween !

Before you vote you should know…..

…that you can’t wear a shirt, hat or button supporting a candidate, issue or even an idea when you go to vote. It’s called electioneering and it’s the equivalent of carrying a yard sign into the poll.

…if you are poll workers are trained to ask you to cover or remove the object. If you don’t have anything to cover up with, then they will asked you to leave and go change

…lines will be long so make sure you have the time, also bring a book or a friend both could make the wait go faster

Just make sure you go out and vote on November 4th, 2008.

Stop waisting your money

Well yesterday I was running a little late and left the house in sweatpants and a sweat shirt. I just don’t understand how people do that everyday. I felt lazy, I looked lazy, and I just felt like it was a bad way to start my day. Next thing I knew I was in my sweatpants and sweatshirt almost all day. I hated the idea that I could meet someone that could have been a future connection or even be a future employer, even though that is highly unlikely. I wouldn’t want anyone to meet me for the first time in that. I know everyone has more then sweatpants, you buy clothes so where them. If your not going to then don’t buy them. If all you have is sweatpants and sweatshirts I will have to understand. All I have to say to the students of Buffalo State and all other college students:

GET UP AND GET DRESSED
