Dan is interning at Adult Swim in Atlanta, Georgia, this summer. He can’t wait to get started and meet new people. Dan’s passion is geared more toward film editing but is hoping that he will expand his knowledge not only in that but the whole production field in general. He loves watching comedies but is mostly up for anything with a good story!

So I was really tempted to write this entry as a "Rap" but since that would take way too much time and effort I will continue this blog in my normal fashion; abstract and off-the-wall. Now, if you don't mind, I order you to continue reading. That's means you. No, not you. The one to the left..yes you! Thank you!

So, my internship ends on Friday. Every week before this one I was glad that Turner has summer Friday's and we got out at 3 PM. Not this week though. My internship's been a lot of fun. I met some great people, made some new friends, and hopefully made some great contacts that will come of use sometime in the near future. It was a great experience to have. In a way my stay in Atlanta was almost like a three month vacation, but it also was a great learning experience for me too. It made me realize that I still want to become an editor. I also have realized that I might end up somewhere else as well. From what I gathered during my time here, producing isn't that bad of a job, as well as standards and practices. However, standards and practices might look fun to me now because the only side I ever see is people reviewing shows all day and checking for legality issues.

Since my last update, I've probably gone out and done more activities in those two weeks than I have over the entire summer. To list a few, I attended a Braves game, hung out with other interns and co-workers, ____ __ _______, ___ _ ___ _____ ____ _ __ ____ ___ ________, ___ ___ ___ ____ _______ _________. All in all it was a great summer.

Looking back on how I got here, it just makes me glad that I stuck through college my first semester. It was a strenuous one, and if I hadn't I know for a fact I wouldn't be sitting here at Adult Swim today. My brother flies down Friday night, then him and I are driving back up to Jamestown, New York while stopping in D.C. on the way. We figured we would have some fun on our trip back.

If I had to list the Top 5 things I would miss the most down here, 5 being the least missed here they are:

5.The sunny, hot days - The weather has been phenomenal. I now freeze when it's 65 degrees here, so re-adjusting to the wonderful weather in New York is going to be a pain.

4. Chick-fil and Waffle House-A - Do I even need an explanation? They're both the two best eating chains in all of the South! Hands down!

3. Southern Hospitality - I have not met one person down here that has been rude to me. Not one. Complete strangers will carry on conversations with you like you're old friends. Coming down here alone I was skeptical about meeting people at first but it was quite easy since everyone is so great and accepting.

2. My Adult Swim Internship - You probably thought this was going to Number 1, didn't you? I loved this internship. It was great. I really can't say how great it was on paper. You would have to shadow me for a day to really understand by what I mean by the word "great". I honestly can't explain it. Everyone I worked with was awesome. They were all very professional with a humorous side to them as well. So, kind of like my sense of humor! I feel a great majority of them I can contact in the near future and catch up and use as references too. Again, I loved my internship!

1. Everyone I've met and my experiences - I know this sounds like an "all of the above" answer, but it's not. These past three months have kind of put things into perspective about what I'm going to have to experience after I graduate and go out to live in the real world. Like everything in life, it's got it's ups and downs. Just like college this was another chapter in The Book Of Dan. I will never forget my time down here and I really hope I get a chance to come back.

Fellow classmates, I'll see you all in a couple weeks.

Family, I'll see you all in a few days.

Thanks for reading!

I hope you liked the pictures I posted in my last entry. I just wanted to show how "abstract" the layout is of Adult Swim, haha.

I know I always say that my blogs are going to be short but I will really try this time to not ramble. Anyway, in my last blog I mentioned that I was going to go to that concert to see a band, right? That band was The Protomen (http://www.theprotomen.com). They're from Tennessee. I've been listening to them for some time and they've never been up north so I decided to go. My cousin was too busy to attend with me so I ended up going by myself. Remember that party that I talked about in a previous blog? I wore my Adult Swim hoodie to that party, and hoping that I would be pointed out again by that hoodie (since I've been told that Adult Swim is very popular down here. Who would have thought?!) I wore it to the concert. I ended up meeting a couple guys from a wedding reception who thought I was the coolest guy ever, just because of that freggin hoodie.

After they left I ordered another beer, I mean glass of chocolate milk and went to stand by the stage waiting for an earlier band to finish. While I was thoroughly enjoying sipping on the chocolaty goodness of my Nesquik, I noticed this man staring at me from an adjacent table. It started to bother me for a little bit until he got up and walked over to me. He came up, said hello and then asked if I worked for Adult Swim. I said yes (as if I would lie about that? Who do you think I am?!). He then asked me if I was on the Bumps earlier this summer (see earlier blog). I of course said yes to that too. He then said that he saw me about a month ago on TV. I was shocked that he recognized me and I told him he was the first person to ever point me out after I was on TV. The guy then asked me what I was there for and I told him that I came to see The Protomen. The guy laughed and revealed that he was actually in The Protomen! So, after that amazing situation, I sat down with his friends, drank some more (he bought a pitcher of chocolate milk. It was very tasty), and talked about where I was from, etc. I then watched him and the rest of the band play their set. Afterward I ended up getting to meet the band and hung out with them for a while. It was a good night.

From the next day (12th) until now I've basically been doing all routine intern jobs. Yesterday I started fedexing tons of merchandise for the Robot Chicken On Wheels tour. Right now I have a crap load of clothing and other merch in boxes next to me waiting to be shipped out. Also, the whole office will be pretty dead until next Tuesday since everyone is at the San Diego Comic Con either working at the booths, on vacation or both.

Unfortunately, I couldn't go. I was on the list of getting a ticket, but you know how formalities are. Oh well.

Until next time.

I was sitting there, waiting for the bus when all of a sudden a brutal police chase hurtled past me. The fleeing car smashed into a concrete wall, exploded into a giant fireball, molten metal was falling all around me...

I hope that got your attention to read this blog. If it did, you better keep on reading! Don't you dare touch that back button on your browser window! I'm talking to you especially Cy!

Well anyway, the last time I updated my blog was June 22nd. A lot has happened since then from what I can remember. Hopefully I can bring you up to speed without rambling on too much. I tend to do that sometimes, just ramble on and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on...

So, the rest of that work week, and on, and on, and on, kidding! The rest of that work week, from the 23rd-26th. Was actually my busiest week here as of yet. The reason being the release date for one of the shows we make here, Squibillies was catching up with how fast the producers were making them. Me and the other intern had to drive hard drives full of the audio for that episode around Atlanta and make sure they got the where they needed to be to finish up the final version of that episode. On top of that we had to keep making constant copies of that episode and distribute them around the Turner complex; Standards and Practices, Legal, etc. Probably the most entertaining parts of my week was when there was a car chase going on in Dallas, Texas on TV. Everyone stopped what they were doing, gathered around the TV and delivered commentary for almost an hour, as well as how crappy of an anchor Shepard Smith is. The 25th was the same way. RIP MJ.

There was more that I had to do on that day and the day after as well, but it mainly consisted of errands, conforming scripts, making copies, and eating cake. The nights and weekend were the same as well. P90X, eat, sleep, repeat.

The next week of work (29th-July 2nd) was pretty laid back. I figured that since we had Friday the 3rd off that Thursday would be pretty hectic. It wasn't that bad actually. In the first couple weeks I was here, I asked a few of the editors if they wouldn't mind me sitting in with them while they edit sometime this summer (I want to be an editor FYI). Last week one of the editors, Jeff came and got me and broke down the editing process and how they do it. We talked for almost an hour, discussing what needed to be done and how tedious the process is. I discovered that it is a lot more precise and time consuming than editing video I do at Buff State. Jeff said that using Final Cut to edit this certain type of show isn't really what Final cut is for in a sense. It's a roundabout way of editing Squidbillies and Aqua Teen Hunger Force but it is actually easier than other ways. They just use a lot of templates and positioning tools. I thought at first it would be hard but from what I saw it looks easier than I thought.

We got out at 2pm on Thurday the 3rd. My parents and my sister drove down to see me for the 4th. I had a fun weekend. I took them around Atlanta, spent time with my cousins and their baby. Had a BBQ. Went shopping. It was a great weekend. I also saw the film "Moon" the past weekend. If you haven't seen yet, you should. It's really good! I highly recommend it!

Today I just finished cataloging the comedies for a person that works here. It took a while, but the fact that I got it done quickly impressed her. So advice time: Get stuff done quickly. The fast you get it done, the more impressed your superiors will be and the sooner you can be given something else to do!

Hopefully on Saturday I can go to see a band that's playing at a bar with my cousin. Other than that, same old, same old.

Later!

Good evening. I'm Dan Bracey and you're not.

So right now I'm making copies of the new episodes of Robot Chicken that air next month and decided that since I had some free time I should update my blog. And to let you all know, watch this new half of Robot Chicken Season 4 which comes out July 26! It's hilarious! Their ideas for sketches cease to amaze me...

Sorry, I had to switch discs in the burner.

Anyway, since I haven't "blogged" about last week I'll try to keep you all up to speed on my doings in Atlanta. To start off I've been conforming more scripts, which is what I talked about in an earlier blog when you have to read the script and alter any improv from the actual episode (I actually know the name of the process now). I also deliver mail, which isn't too bad since I get to meet people across the building. One of the employees last day was Thursday so my task was to bring around the "We'll miss you!" card and have the entire building sign it. At first I thought this was going to be a stupid intern task but then I decided to make the best of it when I realized that I could meet everyone that I had sign it. I ended up meeting employees from all over the building, which was cool because some I would never have met since I never deliver mail to them. I met one guy in Public Relations who said he worked in PR for Nintendo of America in Seattle. He said the only reason he transferred here was because all it did was rain in Seattle. He advised me that if I ever planned on living there, go visit and see how crappy it is first, then make a decision.

Besides meeting a great deal of the employees here, I've had to make a lot of drop offs of audio from certain shows to the audio buildings around the city. The buildings are that close to each other, so I usually have to drive a little ways to each place. It's unfortunate that they don't pay for my mileage. The only two shows that are produced for [Adult Swim] here in Atlanta are "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" and "Squidbillies." Whenever they need the audio re-synced or whatnot, my job as an intern is to drive it around town and get it done. On the bright side, I don't mind the Atlanta heat too much since from what I've heard it has been a lot hotter here than in Los Angeles where my other classmates are interning! Sorry guys...I don't mean to brag. Wait, yes I do.

To sum up the weekend I went out with friends I had made from the party I crashed (look at previous blog), which I just found out this weekend that it was invite only. Friday I went out to a bar with them, and Saturday we all went to a free concert where Rusted Root and Guster were playing. It was held in a park and was packed beyond all reason, hence the word "free." Then Sunday for Father's Day I called my father, my grandfather and my friend's (Cy included) and wished them a Happy Father's Day. When my friends asked why I had wished them one I simply replied, "I am just preparing for the unknown. You never know what lies ahead." Anywho, I ended up driving out to Woodstock (not the concert, which actually took place in Bethel, New York) and spent time with my cousin family and their sister's family as well. We ended up just beer-be-queing and swimming in their pool, while getting sunburned.

Now it's back to "work" and the wonderful enjoyment of the Atlanta lifestyle.

Goodnight and have a pleasant tomorrow.

Since I don't really know anyone down here in humid Atlanta, ended up staying in the first weekend here. During the second weekend I was planning on doing the same thing but I ended up hearing a party going on a couple houses down behind where I was staying. I was contemplating going over but as I didn't know anyone I was leaning more toward no. The mother I'm staying with said I should just try it out.

I thought it out and realized I had nothing to lose so eventually I decided to walk over. I was wearing a multi colored shirt and plaid shorts. I walked up the driveway and to my surprise everyone was wearing white. It was a white party. I looked around, as if I was trying to find someone that I knew, and I was called over by this small group of people. They asked me if I was trying to find my friends and I told them that I actually didn't know anybody and I was from out of state. I hung out with them for about a half an hour until they left. I was then right back where I started. I decided to walk into the house to see who I could meet in there. They had a huge selection of food, "fruit punch", "milk", and "cookies". Another group inside the house ended up talking to me and from then on I became "that guy" at the party. The term "that guy" meant when any of the people I met at party introduced me to anyone else, they always said that I didn't know anyone. Everyone there was shocked that someone would come to a party where they didn't know anyone. They'd never heard of it before. I ended up finding out that it was a going away party and everyone there was between the age of 26 to about 31. Everyone was very friendly and I ended up getting along with everyone. Southern hospitality goes a long way I guess. Every time a group left they invited me out to a bar. I got there around 10:30pm and ended up getting back home around 1:30am. I had a great time.

This week was a lot of fun at [Adult Swim]. I ended up running a good deal of errands; delivering audio discs and hard drives to other buildings in the city, burning multiple copies of television shows, getting free dvd and merchandise, and meeting new employees. I started to get to know the marketing team at [Adult Swim] which is pretty cool. They have given me the task to create slogans to put up on possible billboards around the country. They also asked me to think of some items to create to advertise one of the shows on [Adult Swim]. The show Squidbillies is basically centered more toward the South, since it's about squid hillbillies. Hopefully something comes of it.

All this week I had dinner made for me by the mother of the family I was staying with, which was nice. They all left to go on vacation in New York for seven weeks, so I will basically have the house to myself from now on.

Thursday and Friday were extremely slow. Most of the people that ran the building had gone to the Bonnaroo music festival in Tennessee on Thursday. There really wasn't much to do except deliver files to the other buildings in the company.

The most entertaining part of my day today was probably talking to Cy (Charles Creamer) on instant messenger for the majority of the day. I discovered that he was filling in for an assistant for someone at his internship at LionsGate. Me being bored and somewhat mischievous found out who he was working and decided to call his extension. He sounded pretty shocked over the phone. I have to admit though he was very professional. I'm so proud of you Cy!

The remainder of my weekend will be going out in Atlanta with my cousin Saturday night and then my friend from Buffalo is in town for a wedding and I will being hanging out with him on Sunday. It should be a fun weekend.

Until next week, PEACE!

So, I just got home from [Adult Swim]. My second week has come to an end. So far, I've been having an amazing time down here. Atlanta is a great place and everyone that I work with has been very helpful and kind...

Today I started to catalog all the comedies [Adult Swim] has produced. There is a pretty big amount so it will probably take me a couple weeks to complete. Besides that, I've had to watch episodes of cartoons that will air in a weeks or two and follow along with the scripts and alter the scripts if there is any dialogue change. There is always dialogue change because the voice actors improv A LOT. They also have me running errands two or three times a day to other buildings in the complex. That hasn't been too bad since the temperature here has been high 80's for most of the week.

I also love the fact that there is really no dress code. I just basically wear what I wore to school everyday. Shorts, my stupid/funny quote shirts, etc. I also like the fact that during the summer they have "summer fridays." This means that we get free bagels, cream cheese and pastries. We also get out at 3:00.

One of the perks that the interns at [Adult Swim] have is that we get to see all the shows a week or two before they're aired. We are also allowed to copy any show from their massive library for our own. In a way, me and the other intern are getting paid. They give us a lot of free merchandise, which is a plus. They usually always have something for us to do, as well. Otherwise I make my rounds every so often to see if anyone needs anything and whatnot.

I think the most exciting thing that has happened to me so far was that I was on the [Adult Swim] bumps Sunday night, May 31st. A "bump" is basically how [Adult Swim] talks to their viewers using just a black screen with white text. I was the first intern they talked about in their "Meet the Interns" summer session. I also heard we are the first group of interns they have done this for.
